To determine experimentally, the ultimate shear strength in single shear of timber.
Universal testing machine, Shear attachments,Vernier calipers.
Take the wood specimen and determine the width & depth of the failure plane using vernier calipers.(w=width, d=depth)
Wood Specimen
The timber (along the grain) is placed in the shear attachment and placed into the Universal Testing machine.
The machine is switched ON & the load is gradually increased until the specimen is fractured and the load required to fracture is recorded.
Calculate the double shear strength of timber specimen.
